Desk Day Tention

Desk Day Tention

5 Simple Resets for Desk-Day Tension

If your neck and shoulders feel like they've been quietly clenching since 9 a.m., you're not imagining it. Sitting still for hours lets tension stack up. The fix isn't a whole new routine — it's a handful of small resets you can sprinkle through the day. Here are five we come back to.

1. The hourly stand-up

The single most effective thing on this list: just stand up once an hour. Set a timer if you have to. Stand, take a few steps, roll your shoulders, sit back down. Movement is the antidote to stillness, and you don't need much of it.

2. Slow neck rolls

Drop your chin gently toward your chest and let your head roll slowly from one side to the other — no forcing, no cracking, just easy half-circles. Five in each direction. It's a quiet way to loosen the spot where most of us hold a whole day of screen time.

3. The doorway chest opener

Hours of typing pull the shoulders forward. Counter it: stand in a doorway, forearms on the frame, and lean gently through until you feel a light stretch across the chest and the front of the shoulders. Breathe for 20–30 seconds. Instant "un-hunch."

4. Shoulder blade squeezes

Sitting tall, draw your shoulder blades gently down and back, like you're tucking them into your back pockets. Hold for a couple of seconds, release, repeat 8–10 times. It wakes up the muscles that posture asks you to forget about.

5. One good exhale

Tension loves a held breath. A few times a day, take one slow breath in through the nose and a longer breath out through the mouth, letting your shoulders drop on the exhale. It sounds almost too simple — that's exactly why it works.

Make it stick

You don't need all five every day. Pick one or two, attach them to something you already do (every coffee refill, every meeting that ends), and let them become automatic. Small, consistent resets keep everyday tension from piling into that end-of-week knot.

And when the week has already gotten the better of your shoulders? That's what we're here for. A focused massage picks up where the desk resets leave off.
